  Introduction

The word Reiki is Japanese and uses two syllables; Rei, meaning spiritual wisdom and Ki, meaning life force energy. It is, simply, Ancient Universal Healing Energy.
Reiki is a method of hands-on healing for channeling this energy.

By the gentle laying on of hands, this energy can affect the body, mind and emotions of the recipient, thus accelerating the body’s own healing process. It induces feelings of deep relaxation.

  History

The Usui System of Reiki Healing was created from the experience and dedication of Dr Mikao Usui, a theology teacher in Japan who, in the mid 19th century, studied the healing abilities of great spiritual teachers throughout history.

Dr Usui was the first Grand Master of Reiki.

  A Reiki treatment

A Reiki treatment is given on a massage couch. Treatment lasts approximately an hour and a quarter. The recipient remains fully clothed, lying comfortably on the couch covered with a light blanket. The practitioner places their hands on the person’s body, following a particular sequence of hand positions on the head and body, if necessary focusing on particular areas of discomfort.

  How does Reiki work?

Reiki works like a flood of energy flowing through the hands dissolving energy blocks, increasing circulation on both subtle and physical levels and balancing the energy system.

As people connect to their inner selves, unresolved issues may surface to be healed. Emotional problems respond well to Reiki. Physical problems, especially those related to stress and tension, can be eased.

What will I feel after a Reiki treatment?

Everyone has a unique experience of Reiki’s healing energy. Responses vary in accordance with what each person needs at the time. People often describe a feeling of deep inner relaxation.
